Consumers today take an increasingly critical view of plastic packaging. The packaging industry is consequently searching hard for alternatives. Paper is an excellent, eco-friendly alternative for non-convenience products. JASA builds vertical packaging machines for processing this material – thus meeting the demands of environmentally aware consumers. In order to process paper, these machines had to be adapted to the material. Whereas most manufacturers choose a sealable coating to close their packaging, JASA came up with a special method that does away with conventional seals. Not only can products be packed much faster as a result but the material is also suitable for recycling.

A sustainable solution: JASA Sleevers for cardboard packaging

JASA has developed a revolutionary new technology for packing apples as well as other types of fruit and vegetables in sleeves made from 100% recyclable cardboard. Thanks to this solution, the use of film can now be restricted to specific products where plastic remains the better alternative.

The potential applications extend from paper bags for unprocessed vegetables like potatoes, onions or garlic to hermetically sealed pillow bags for fresh-cut vegetables or lettuce. JASA also supplies plastic packaging to increase the shelf life of particularly sensitive products. Since this results in less food being thrown away, these solutions, too, make a positive contribution towards sustainability and resource economy.  

The first contact with WITTENSTEIN was made at a trade fair in Germany. This led to JASA getting in touch with the Sales Office in Belgium and requesting a quote. The excellent value for money was one argument that tipped the scales in favor of our servo gearboxes. The other decisive factor was that the WITTENSTEIN range also included a gearbox with an optimized output interface, meaning that JASA’s technicians could mount a timing belt pulley directly to the gearbox without having to use an additional bearing.
